The Black Lion from Georgia played yesterday in the Tel Aviv Heat in the first ever Super Cup match in European rugby at the Avcella Stadium in Tbilisi.
England fans had a chance to see Gabriel Ibitua’s first appearance on the team, but it did not exactly go as planned for Harlkins’ former man.
He did not see much action on the ball and remained to see how the Black Lion – who were full of Georgian international players – ended up with comfortable winners in the end, two of their attempts coming in his wing.
Anyway, we still hope for the best for him. He went through a terrible period at Agen last season and is currently without a contract at a major club.

This new competitive annual club competition will see a combination of professional club teams and franchise teams vying for the Super Cup title through an exciting competition format.
For the first edition, the Super Cup will feature 8 top teams sent in two conferences to the preliminary round stage.
The European Rugby Cup will create a high-performance track for the development of pan-European rugby talent, which will be reflected in the competitiveness of the club’s and franchise teams, as well as in the level of performance of European rugby teams. In the coming years, Europe Rugby’s ambition is to expand the Super Cup to new teams and new countries to raise the standards of the game, on and off the pitch, across the continent and strengthen the national team player track.
