PANAJI: An Israeli passenger plane from Bangkok to Tel Aviv made an emergency landing at Goa International Airport when the pilot noticed a warning of a fuel leak indicator.
None of the passengers were injured during the emergency landing, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The flight took off from Bangkok and made a scheduled stop in Phuket. It was on its way to Tel Aviv when the pilot noticed a “fuel leak indicator on,” the Israeli ministry said.
Following the protocol, the pilot turned off the damaged engine and requested an emergency landing in Goa. The Navy and the Airports Authority of India have cleared the runway so that the plane can land safely.
El Al’s Boeing 787 landed with only one engine.
Modern aircraft are designed to fly safely with one engine and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is qualified to fly for five and a half hours on a single engine to the nearest suitable airport for landing.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs contacted the local authorities, who made sure that the passengers underwent RT-PCR tests and were accommodated in a hotel.
Aircraft technicians were unable to find any indication of a fuel leak and El Al contacted Boeing to determine what caused the indicator light to illuminate.
